Duarte (singer)
Duarte André Barreiros Coxo (born November 20, 1980 in Évora ), stage name Duarte , is a Portuguese fado singer.
Career
Duarte has been singing Fado since he was seven, but then turned to other styles of music, especially pop / rock . He took various courses at the Évora Music Academy (2 years of music history, 3 years of piano, 4 years of classical guitar), and sang in the choir there. After completing his studies in clinical psychology in 2003, he turned more to fado. He has been singing fado again occasionally since 1997, and since 2001 regularly in bars in his hometown.
In 2004 he presented his debut album, where he sang poems by Fernando Pessoa , Aldina Duarte and Maria Teresa Grave , alongside his own pieces. He then gave concerts in Portugal and Spain , the Público newspaper included a piece of him on their Fado compilation 100 Anos do Fado, and he received a regular engagement in the Lisbon fado bar Senhor Vinho run by the fado singer Maria da Fé.
After various appearances on television and radio, the city of Arraiolos awarded him a cultural recognition medal in 2007 after the Amália Rodrigues Foundation awarded him its 2006 "New Discovery of the Year" award in the Male Voice category . At the invitation of the Greek composer Evanthia Reboutsika and the singer Elli Paspala , he went to the Polis Theater in Athens for a concert season in 2007 . He returned to Greece the following year to sing in Chios at the 1st Mediterranean Music Festival in 2008. In the same year he sang in Guinea-Bissau and contributed a self-composed piece at the invitation of the director José Fonseca e Costa to his film Os Mistérios de Lisboa or What the Tourist Should See , the film adaptation of the Lisbon travel guide of the same name by Fernando Pessoa from the Year 1925.
In 2009 he released his second album and in 2010 he sang a. a. in Macau .
