Previous model Monster 695

The Ducati Monster 696 is the first model in the so-called M5 series. It is the first real new construction of a Ducati Monster model since its appearance in 1993.

Model history

The Ducati Monster 696 was presented at the EICMA motorcycle fair in 2007 . Unlike many of the previous models, the 696 is not just a revised or differently motorized predecessor model, but has also been completely redesigned with a new frame. The engine is taken from the previous model 695, but has also been revised. The main changes compared to its predecessor, the Ducati Monster 695 , are:

  • Increase in output from 73 to 80 hp (from 54 to 59 kW) and torque by 8 Nm
  • Underseat twin exhaust
  • standard ABS (from 2010)
  • Reduced weight by 5 kg

Production of the Monster 696 was discontinued in 2014 in favor of the Monster 821 .

Models

In 2014 the Monster 696 was available in three color combinations:

  • Attachments and frame black (Dark Stealth)
  • red attachments with red frame (Ducati Red)
  • white attachments with black frame (Stone White)

It is also possible to exchange the cladding of the M5 series and thereby create other color combinations.

Besides the 696, there was a 696+ with a small wind deflector and a passenger cover. In 2014 the price of the 696+ was € 8,790 plus transfer.

Special model

For the 20th anniversary of the 2013 Monster series, there was an anniversary edition with a bronze-colored frame, black wheels and red decor.

reception

The initial reactions to the redesign of the Monster 696 were mixed, but mostly positive. “It has become more modern in all respects without having lost any of its strength of character.” The engine, chassis and brakes continue to be praised as being particularly well done. Subsequent tests praise the design compared to competitors, as well as the sporty design, especially the sound of the smallest model in the range. Furthermore, the simple operation and good suitability for beginners are praised. On the other hand, the low seat height (especially with a low bench) is cited as a possible problem for people with large stature. Compared to the larger Monster 1100 Evo model , the 696 is praised for its better drivability and handling. The sometimes simpler equipment of the 696 is not decisive and the driving pleasure is at least equal, if not greater.
