Duivelspack (High German: "Teufelspack") is a German fun folk trio from Detmold that was founded in 2000. In August 2020 they announced their dissolution.

history

Duivelspack was founded in 2000 by Arne Heger, Daniel Wahren and Marcus Linnemann. In addition to their CDs, in 2007 they brought out a songbook with their own and traditional songs, which was regularly updated and completed up to the “ Kindsköpf” CD . The trio brought out their own songbooks for the albums Mann sein and Weibsbilder . Your love song where are you? was voted hit of the year 2007 by the listeners of the Internet radio station Radio Aena, in 2015 the song Je suis Charlie was voted number 1 in the annual charts on the Internet station MFG-Radio. Since 2010 Stefan Pokroppa has been a guest guitarist on several gigs. In September 2012 he finally replaced Marcus Linnemann as a permanent member of the band, who left the trio after 12 years.

style

music

For their singing they sometimes use historical instruments such as recorders , guitar lute and guitar cister , nyckelharpa , viola da gamba and Sternberger fiddle , but modern percussion and melody instruments are also increasingly finding their place. The music is geared towards the three-part singing, which over the years has become the trademark of the three musicians. The trio themselves describe their music as FunFolk: stand-up comedy elements mix with cheeky song lyrics and masterfully performed music. The audience is an integral part of the show at every performance and is never just a passive listener, so the interaction with the people in front of the stage has become a trademark of the band. With its CDs “Mann sein” (2014) and “Weibsbilder” (2016) in particular, the trio picks up on modern everyday issues and packs them into hand-made music in typical Duivelspack fashion. The rhythms and melodies refer to the roots in jazz and rock .

In 2009, the group amazed its audience with a “music archaeological project”: With the scientific advice of Professor Meinolf Schumacher, it dedicated itself to the music of the Teutons, for which purpose-built historical instruments such as the lure , bone flutes , the Trossinger lyre , as well as frame drums and clay drums covered with skin were used. The result was recorded on the album Mythos Hildebrandslied , which was named after the Hildebrandslied . In October 2016 the album was reissued on CD after having only been available as a digital distribution for several years .

Texts

The band began in 2000 with interpretations of traditional songs, some of them medieval. From the second CD onwards, the textual focus shifted towards self-written songs. Since the third CD at the latest, own texts and melodies have been the rule, covers and traditional songs the exception. In the beginning it was mainly about cheerful medieval-inspired topics such as tavern, drinking, love and minnie songs, but since Stefan Pokroppa joined the company (from 2010), the Duivelspack has mostly been devoted to current topics.
