Duncan Cowan Ferguson (born December 27, 1971 in Stirling ) is a Scottish football coach and former player .

Career

Ferguson's youth club was Carse Thistle in his native Scotland. In 1990 he moved to the first team at Dundee United . He made 77 league appearances, in which he met 28 times for Dundee United. In the 1993/94 season the striker was with the Glasgow Rangers under contract, for which he scored 2 goals in 14 league games. From 1994 to 1998 Everton FC was his first stop in the English Premier League (116 games, 37 goals). In 1999/2000 Ferguson played for a year (30 games, 8 goals) at Newcastle United before returning to Everton. For Everton he then completed a further 116 league games and scored 24 goals before his contract there expired at the end of the 2005/2006 season and he ended his career.

Ferguson played seven times in the Scottish national football team before he retired from international football in the 1997/98 season.

In 1994 he was the first European football player to be jailed for a foul. During a game against the Raith Rovers, he headbutted his opponent John McStay and spent 44 days in jail.
