Dunkelstadt (international title Darktown) is a German - Belgian crime series by director Asli Özge from 2020.
action
Doro Decker is a private detective and makes a living by catching unfaithful spouses or finding runaway pets. She actually wanted to become a police officer, but is unable to take orders. Her ability to elicit information from people or to initiate certain actions helps her in her investigations. At her side, her assistant Adnan is investigating.
When Doro meets an old colleague of her father's, he makes strange hints that her father was never shot on duty. Doro begins the investigation into her father's death and wakes sleeping dogs.

Dunkelstadt is a German-Belgian co-production by Zeitsprung Pictures and the Belgian production company AT-Prod. The shooting took place from mid-April to the end of July 2019 in Antwerp and the surrounding area.
The series draws on stylistic elements of the film noir genre . Doro Decker's feelings and thoughts can also be heard as a voice-over .

Gregor Loches from Serienjunkies.de writes in his review that the individual cases take up too much space in each episode and that the horizontal story is built up too slowly, at least at the beginning. In his opinion, the case investigations are not cleverly constructed and rather tell a simple detective story. But he also writes that Doro's character has a pull that makes you want to keep looking.
In the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , Heike Hubertz writes that Dunkelstadt is definitely a modern film noir series, but at best one that has breakfasted a sad superhero clown and spat it out as an ironic private detective comic quote. She also criticizes the fact that the horizontal story arc takes up too little space and that looking at it gives you the feeling that the only goal is to bring the case to an end in 45 entertaining minutes.
Unfortunately, Dunkelstadt is not very dark, writes Thomas Gehringer in the Stuttgarter Zeitung, and he also notes that the cases are not very original. But he rates positively that the main role is played by a cool young woman and not an old warrior.
