Through the wilderness - The adventure of a lifetime is a youth - documentary series , which since 2011 by the production company E + U TV commissioned by the Hessian Radio in cooperation with the Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg for the KiKA is produced. The series began broadcasting on October 31, 2011.

The focus of each season is the journey of six boys and girls from Germany to a remote area of Europe and their way back to civilization. For a period of four weeks they hike together on different terrain, whereby they have to determine the route between the starting point and their next stage destination themselves using a compass . Most of the remaining decisions are also made by the participants themselves.
The young people usually spend their nights in tents, but also in caves or in the open air. They are supplied with different foods every day, which they have to prepare independently with the resources available.
On their journey, the young people are accompanied by coach Tobias Ohmann, who gives them tips and tricks for survival in the wilderness and also acts as a contact person in emergencies.
On their way through the wilderness, the young people have to face the challenges set by their coach on a daily basis. Some of these are physically demanding disciplines such as climbing , abseiling , diving , balancing and rafting . By overcoming the personal fears of individual participants, some challenges have the character of a test of courage . For each successfully mastered challenge, the young people receive a note which - combined with all the other notes - leads to a surprise at the end of their journey.
Charisma
Each season consists of 20 episodes and documents the journey lasting several weeks, including the arrival and departure of the young people. The episodes are broadcast in the evening program of the KiKA , repeats of the series are broadcast on ARD-alpha , among others . season 1
The first season from 2011 accompanied the youngsters Antonia, Caspar, Freddy, Kimberly, Leonie and Philip to the Hardangervidda in Norway .
season 2
The second season in 2014 showed the way of David, Henriette, Julien, Mahtab, Niklas and Viviane in the Romanian Transylvania .
season 3
In the third season of the series, Hannah, Lucy, Lukas, Moritz , Natalie and Orlando traveled to the volcanic island of Tenerife . It was broadcast in 2015.
Season 4
The fourth season was broadcast in 2017 and showed the journey of Dominic, Jessi, Justus, Konrad, Luissa and Marie from the Spanish Sierra Nevada back to civilization.
Season 5
The fifth season was recorded from April 8 to May 4, 2019 with Melanie, Evelin, Sophie, Tom, Jannis and Felix in northern Greece and was broadcast from October 16, 2019.
