Durisol is the trademark of an insulating building material made from mineralized, cement-bound wood fibers . The building material, which belongs to the lightweight building materials group, is used in a variety of ways due to its heat storage capacity , for example in the areas of thermal insulation , fire protection as well as sound and noise protection .

The natural building material has its roots in the development of the Dutchman Richard Handl, who in 1932 applied for a patent for a "process for manufacturing a lightweight building material from wood waste and cement" . The technology was further developed by the two Swiss , August Schnell and Alex Bosshard, with their Durisol AG in Dietikon , founded in 1938 , which led to the invention of the wood-concrete cladding stone they patented . With them, Friedrich Häusler also worked as a consulting engineer at Durisol AG from 1939. As a result, Durisol AG , which from 1964 also operated an important location in Villmergen under the name Durisol Villmergen AG , manufactured the building material and marketed it internationally. a. by granting licenses . The patent rights expired in the mid-1980s.

Durisol was then a registered trademark of the Canadian Durisol International Corp. who took over the trademark rights. All Durisol manufacturers worldwide produced under their license. Production sites are located in Canada as well as Israel, Japan, the Netherlands, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, the United States and in Austria and Slovakia with Durisol-Werke Ges.mbH , which acquired the Durisol license for Austria in 1955. These works belonged to the Hatschek Foundation until 2010 and were bought by Leier International at the beginning of the year . In addition, various sales companies operate internationally, including Durisol Element AG in Switzerland .

The trademark holder now operates under the name Nexcem . In Europe, however, the products are still marketed under the trade name Durisol.

A similar product is wood wool lightweight panels that are sold under the Heraklith brand name .
