Dutchavelli (* 1993 or 1994 in Birmingham ; actually Stephan Allen ) is a British rapper .

Life

Stephan Allen was born in Birmingham. One of his sisters is also active as a rapper under the pseudonym Stefflon Don . His pseudonym was initially Dutch and resulted in his years in the Netherlands. His family moved to Rotterdam when he was a baby. When he was about 10, the family moved back to the UK and settled in Upper Clapton , East London. The family was very enthusiastic about music and so in his early years he discovered Buju Banton , Bob Marley , Whitney Houston , Aretha Franklin and Marvin Gaye . Together with his sister and two older brothers, he became interested in rap music. The four practiced freestyle. Stefflon Don was the first to make the breakthrough. In the beginning he was influenced by 50 Cent , Tupac and Eminem . He started rapping on the street and his older friends encouraged him to record his music professionally. However, when he was 17 there was a six-year prison sentence, of which he had to serve five years.

After his release in 2016, he released the track New Jack City and a number of other songs pretty quickly . He released more songs until 2017, but was subsequently arrested again. The charges were illegal gun possession and burglary. He was acquitted in 2018, but was in custody for almost a year. After his release, he began to work on his rap career again. His breakthrough came with the song I Dunno with Tion Wayne and Stormzy . The song reached number 7 on the UK charts. At the end of June 2020, he also released a featuring on the track All dem Talk by Albanian rapper Noizy . This reached number 25 in the German charts.

Dutchavelli took part in the Black Lives Matter movement and made headlines again when the police were looking for him with an arrest warrant because he was on probation on the one hand and the protests were to be stopped with short sentences on the other. He had announced on Instagram that he would take part in another demonstration. Ultimately, he was able to clear up the matter because he did not take part in the protest march.
