The FC Vitebsk ( Belarusian ФК Віцебск , Russian ФК Витебск / FK Vitebsk ) is a football club from the Belarusian city of Vitebsk . After his promotion in 2014, he plays in the Wyschejschaja Liha , the top division of Belarus . He won his only title so far in 1998 with the Belarusian Cup .
history
FK Wizebsk was founded in 1960 as KIM Wizebsk . The club was renamed several times, in 1995 in Dvina Vitebsk , 1996 in Lakamatyu-96 Vitebsk , 2002 in Lakamatyu Vitebsk and finally in 2007 in FK Vitebsk .
After Belarus gained independence in 1992, he was one of the founding members of the Vysheyschaya Liha, where he finished second behind Dinamo Minsk in the 1992/93 and 1994/95 seasons . The club later rose twice, in 2002 and 2004, from the highest league, but succeeded in direct recovery in the following season.
FK Vitebsk celebrated its greatest success in 1998 by winning the Belarusian Cup, where they prevailed in the final with 2-1 after extra time against Dinamo Minsk. In the 1998/99 European Cup Winners' Cup , the team then failed in qualifying at Levski Sofia . She lost her first game at international level in Sofia 8-1, the return match at home ended 1-1.
In the 1999 Intertoto Cup , the club played again internationally. Here FK Vitebsk retired in the first round with 1: 2 and 1: 1 against NK Varteks Varaždin from Croatia .
In the 2011 season, the team had to go into the second division after the penultimate place in the league and the subsequently lost relegation games against Partizan Minsk . After the 2014 season, FK Vitebsk returned to the Belarusian upper house when the team took third place in the second division and defeated the last of the Vysheyschaya Liha Dnjapro Mahiljou in two relegation games.
