The FK Slavija-Masyr ( Belarusian Футбольны клуб Славія-Мазыр , Russian Футбольный клуб Славия-Мозырь / FK Slavija-Mosyr ) is a football club from the Belarusian city of Masyr . The Belarusian champions from 1996 and 2000 will play in the Vysheyschaya Liha , the country's top division , in the 2015 season .

history

The football club was founded in 1987 under the name Palesse Mazyr . After the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1992, the club first played in the Pershaya Liha, the second highest football class in Belarus. In 1995 he was promoted to Wyschejschaja Liha. In the same year it was renamed MPKZ (Mosyrskij Promyschlenno-Kommertscheskij Zentr), three years later in Slavija Mazyr . In the top league, the club was runner-up straight away in the 1996 season, and a year later he won his first championship title. Another runner-up in 1999 and a championship in 2000 follow. In addition, the national cup was won twice, in 1996 and 2000, and the team reached the cup final two more times.

In qualifying for the UEFA Champions League in 1997/98 and 2001/02 UEFA Champions League , the club each reached the second round. In 1997, the Moldovan champions Constructorul Chișinău could be defeated before they were eliminated by Olympiacos . In 2001 the team prevailed against the Faroese champions VB Vágur and then failed at Inter Bratislava . In the 1996/97 European Cup Winners' Cup , the end took place in the first qualifying round against KR Reykjavík . The club was also eliminated in the first qualifying round of its two UEFA Cup appearances, in 1997 against Dinamo Tbilisi and in 2000 against Maccabi Haifa .

After the second championship title in 2000 it went downhill for Slavija Mazyr. In the league, the team finished only back places and rose after a 14th place in 2005 after ten years of first class in the second-rate Pershaya Liha. After this sporty and economically unsuccessful season, the club merged in early 2006 with ZLiN Homel to form FK Mazyr-ZLiN on the material basis of the now officially dissolved Slavija Mazyr. In 2007 the club played under the name FK Mazyr, since 2008 it has been called FK Slavija-Mazyr. In 2009, the club was only able to save itself from falling into third division by winning a playoff for relegation.

In 2006, orange-black became the club's official colors. Since 2007 the team has been appearing again in the former colors of Slavija Mazyr red and black.
