Dwayne Dolphin

Dwayne Dolphin (born May 7, 1963 in Pittsburgh ) is an American jazz musician ( double bass ).

Dolphin, who still lives in his hometown, first discovered the drums, but switched to the bass guitar at the age of ten . At the age of 15 he played in the band of the Pittsburgh drummer Roger Humphries , but also with local musicians such as Pete Henderson and Carl Arter.

After finishing high school, Wynton Marsalis brought him to his quintet, with whom he toured the United States. Then he played with Hank Crawford and subsequently with Hank Jones , Abbey Lincoln , Kenny Burrell and Clark Terry on the one hand, and Geri Allen , Graham Haynes , Pharoah Sanders and Arthur Blythe on the other. He toured Europe with Geri Allen, Wallace Roney , Don Byron and Oliver Lake as well as with Maceo Parker , Pee Wee Ellis and Fred Wesley .

In 1993 he presented his debut album Portrait of Adrian , on which he presented his musical concept with Michael Mossman , Ravi Coltrane , Geri Allen, and Roger Humphries. In 1995 he recorded with Steve Rudolph ( Everything I Love ); In the mid-1990s he formed a trio with Peter Madsen and Bruce Cox , who recorded three albums for minor music , two of which were expanded to form a quartet with Stanley Turrentine and Benny Golson, respectively . He then toured extensively with Turrentine and John Hicks , but also played with Phil Woods and Herbie Mann . He led his own band Under Cover Project and developed his own piccolo bass.

He was appointed adjunct professor at Duquesne University .
