Steve Rudolph

Steve Rudolph (* 1949 in Evansville , Indiana ) is an American musician ( piano , arrangement , composition ) of modern jazz .

Rudolph started playing the trumpet before switching to piano at the age of 22. In 1977 he got the opportunity to tour with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra ( Ghost Band ). During this time he played with artists such as Helen O'Connell , Louie Bellson , Clark Terry , Terry Gibbs , Al Gray and the Mills Brothers . Rudolph, who then lived in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, worked there as a bar pianist . From there he toured with the Harrisburg Symphony and the New World Symphony of Miami (the latter as a soloist). From the 1980s onwards, she also worked with musicians such as Jörg Widmoser ( Live in Munich , 1988), Johnny Coles , Bill Goodwin , Ali Ryerson ( Soul Quest , 2003), Matt Wilson , Drew Gress , Cal Collins and Vinny Valentino . He also submitted a number of Aben under his own name. In his home region he is co-leader of the River City Big Band and pianist in the acoustic trio Day Dream with Phil Haynes and Drew Gress. In the field of jazz, he was involved in 23 recording sessions between 1982 and 2019, according to Tom Lord .

Rudolph received two Jazz Composition Fellowships from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts . He was named Best Emerging Artist at the 1998 JazzTimes Convention in New York City and received the highest honors in Jazziz magazine's piano competition at the Seven Springs Jazz Festival in 1999 . He also founded the non-profit jazz organization Central PA Friends of Jazz and was its chairman.
