Ali Ryerson
Ali Ryerson (born October 21, 1952 in New York City ) is an American jazz flutist.

Ryerson is the daughter of the guitarist Art Ryerson, who worked as a studio musician in New York a. a. worked with Charlie Parker . Through her father's jam sessions, she came into contact with musicians such as Milt Hinton , Barry Galbraith and Lou Stein at an early age . She began playing the flute at the age of eight and performed as a teenager in the jazz rock band of her brothers Art, Rich and John. She had a classical music education at Hartt College, University of Hartford , where she studied jazz and graduated in 1979 with a bachelor's degree. Throughout her career she has played in both jazz and classical music, such as with the Monterey Bay Symphony and Luciano Pavarotti . In 1980 she moved to Montréal and performed in a duo in hotels. She spent three years in Belgium as a freelance musician, where she played with musicians such as Steve Houben and Charles Loos , with whom she made two albums.
After returning to New York, she worked as a studio musician and taught workshops. In addition, she released several albums under her own name for Bob Thiele 's Red Baron label and for Concord Jazz , on which musicians such as Kenny Barron , Harold Danko , Santi Debriano , Roy Haynes and Red Rodney participated. In 996 a trio with guitarist Joe Beck and percussionist Steve Davis produced the Dmp album Alto ; she also worked a. a. with Stéphane Grappelli , Maxine Sullivan , Art Farmer , Lou Donaldson and Billy Taylor . In 2013 she presented her Jazz Flute Big Band with 16 flutes of different pitches and rhythm groups (and the guest soloists Hubert Laws , Néstor Torres and Holly Hofmann ).
