Dwayne S. Milburn

Dwayne Steven Milburn (born January 13, 1963 in Baltimore , Maryland) is an American composer , arranger , conductor and organist .

Life

Dwayne S. Milburn studied at the University of California - Los Angeles (UCLA) and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1986. During this time he was not only an arranger for the UCLA band and the choir program, but also worked for special projects for American radio and television. He completed further studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music in Cleveland and graduated in 1992 with a Master of Music degree in orchestral conducting. During this time he worked as director and conductor of the cadet music for the United States Military Academy in West Point and as director of the West Point Glee Club .

Milburn led the United States Army Europe Band. He was one of 24 officers enrolled in the United States Army Band program. During this time he was the second leader of the United States Continental Army Band in Fort Monroe-Virginia, the United States Army Band "Pershings Own" in Washington D.C., the United States Army Europe Band and Choir in Heidelberg . As a conductor, he worked for the Army Ground Forces Band at Fort McPherson near Atlanta, Georgia. He received numerous military awards and prizes, such as B. the President Benjamin Harrison Award, the Meritorious Service Medal and the NATO Medal . During this time he also worked as an arranger for the Cleveland Orchestra.

In 2002 he conducted the Kennedy Center’s Annual Messiah Sing-Along and served as a juror at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He organized the Conductors Art Workshop and worked with the Wisconsin National Guard Band.

He graduated from Alma Mater University with a doctorate in 2009 .

He arranged various works for band and choir, for example the Cuban Overture by George Gershwin and the festival overture of the American National Air " The Star-Spangled Banner " by Dudley Buck (1839–1909). He also wrote his own works for these media. From 2005 to 2009 he was resident composer at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Pacific Palisades and wrote three important works for them.

Private

Currently (as of September 2016) he lives and works in Germany .
