E-Z pass
E-ZPass is an electronic toll system based on RFID chips that was introduced in 1993 and is used in large parts of the northeastern United States of America . The E-ZPass Interagency Group consists of 38 authorities or institutions in 16 US states that provide users with a standardized transponder for automatic toll billing.
functionality
The RFID transponders are usually visible behind the windshield in the passenger compartment of the vehicle. Since windshields are installed in some vehicles that inhibit or block radio signals, there are also modules for external mounting, for example on the license plate attachment. Depending on the vehicle class, the chips are encoded for cars , motorcycles , trucks , buses or the like, as not all roads, bridges or tunnels charge the same fees for all vehicle classes. There is a separate version for government vehicles.
Toll stations are usually equipped with special lanes for conventional and electronic payment methods.
technology
The signal is sent on 915 MHz at 500 Kbit / s in 256- bit packets.
