history

EGO Oberderdingen

In 1925, the Black Forest pliers contact workshop in Oberweiler was founded by Karl Fischer in Oberweiler . The company initially developed and produced electrical plugs, sockets and cables with seven employees. In 1927 the company was renamed Elektro-Gerätebau GmbH Oberweiler . Single and double hotplates, electric stoves, electric ovens for household and business as well as hot water boilers have been added to the range. After a short, written correspondence and a subsequent meeting with the founder of the Blanco company , Heinrich Blanc , he became an equal partner. In September 1931, production was relocated from Oberweiler to Oberderdingen . From now on, the company concentrated on the manufacture of components for electric stoves such as hotplates and switches.

In 1938 EGO employed 250 people. In 1946, Karl Fischer introduced the so-called holiday dispatch to the Black Forest for EGO employees and their relatives. In 1951 the company started producing bar temperature regulators for ovens. Hot plates with a stainless steel spill rim, which are considered the basis for the success of the electric range, were developed in 1952. The production of tubular heating elements and capillary tube thermostats started in 1957. The hot plate with temperature protection was developed in 1958. From 1963 the EGO automatic hotplate regulated the temperature independently and in an energy-saving manner.

A production facility in Novara, Italy, was established as the first foreign location in 1960. This former production site continues to exist as a sales company. Foreign locations followed in France (1962), Austria (1968) and Switzerland (1969). EGO started working with ETA in Cerkno , Slovenia in 1968 . 1971 followed a cooperation with Elektro-Kontakt in what was then Yugoslavia. Glass ceramic hobs, radiant heaters and touch control systems were produced from 1977. The first overseas locations in the USA and South Africa were added in 1979. The EGOtherm heating and control system was developed in 1983, followed in 1985 by thick-film heating. The location in Turkey was founded in Çorlu in 1989 . In 1992 the production of induction hobs was started. In 1998 Remco in Spain was taken over and two further subsidiaries were founded, EGO Control Systems GmbH in Balingen and EGO Components (China) Co., Ltd. in Shanghai . The production of motor controls for washing machines and dryers expanded the product range in 2004. Subsidiaries were founded in Poland in 2005 and Mexico in 2006.

In 2006 the 75th anniversary of EGO was celebrated with numerous events. The electronic refrigerator control went into series production from 2008. In 2012 the Chinese production site moved from Shanghai to Taicang . The gas business of the Australian supplier Tytronics was taken over in 2012. In 2013, the Italian gas specialist Defendi became part of the EGO Group.

The Chairman of the Management Board is Dirk Schallock, who has held this position since January 1, 2019. Since 2010 the company has been fully family-owned again. In 2009, the shareholders of the family lines bought back the shares previously sold to an investment company.
