Count Werner von Rosenfeldt (born in November 1639 in Müntenhof in what is now Estonia ; † December 5, 1710 in Karlskrona , born Werner Reimers ), was a Swedish admiral during the Great Northern War . Also a cartographer and poet .

family

Werner von Rosenfeldt was born as the son of Schlossvoigt by Wolmar David Reimer on his estate in Müntenhof in what is now Estonia. His father was ennobled in 1645, and he and his descendants were granted the right to change the name to von Rosenfeldt .

In 1679 Rosenfeldt was raised to the Swedish nobility. He was married to Kristina Gyllenstake. They had three daughters together. One of the daughters married the Swedish admiral Gustav Wattrang .

When Werner von Rosenfeldt died in 1710, the male bloodline of the von Rosenfeldts died out. Despite initial concerns about his allegedly contagious disease, from which he died, von Rosenfeldt was buried in Kalmar Cathedral.

Military career

Joined the Swedish Navy in 1658. Werner von Rosenfeldt was made a lieutenant in the Admiralty in 1660 . Six years later he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and subsequently to commandant (1673) and major (1676). For his bravery in the sea ​​battle at Bornholm on May 25, 1676 he was appointed lieutenant admiral. Vice-admiral (1680) and promoted to admiral (1700). In the same year, von Rosenfeldt was appointed Holmadmiral , the third highest naval rank in what was then Sweden. He was also appointed to oversee all helmsmen in the Swedish Navy.

Werner von Rosenfeldt also took part in the sea ​​battle in the Køgebucht in 1677. The battle took place during the Skan War . The Swedish Navy was defeated by the Danish fleet and the Swedes lost their hegemony within the Baltic Sea .

From 1677 to 1679, von Rosenfeldt led the supply convoys from Karlskrona to Rügen .

After the end of the Skåne War, von Rosenfeldt campaigned for the armament of the Swedish fleet. Furthermore, new hydrographic maps of the Baltic Sea and the Kattegat were made on his behalf . These were printed in Holland under the name of the captain-helmsman Pehr Gäddas.

Cartography and poetry

In 1702 von Rosenfeldt made a detailed map of the Swedish capital Stockholm . During his time in the Navy, von Rosenfeldt wrote several poems and verses. In 1686 he published Den Vaaksammes roo and eller seine leedsamhet .
