The E.ON Digital Technology ( EDT ), formerly E.ON Business Services (until January 31, 2019), E.ON IT , E.ON IS and is: energy , the Group-wide IT and controls digital activities of E .ON SE, one of the world's largest non-state energy companies. EDT is headquartered in Hanover and, as an internal function, is responsible for around 1,700 employees. These are spread across a large number of E.ON locations in Germany and internationally; here in particular in Great Britain, Italy, Romania, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Hungary.

Business activity

E.ON Digital Technology (EDT) controls and implements the group-wide, digital transformation of E.ON SE with around 1,700 employees. It sets the strategic direction for IT technology and the digital business and defines the corporate architecture and the portfolio of the central digital technology areas. It provides the technological platforms to support the international business activities of the entire E.ON Group. It also controls large IT service providers and the use of the IT infrastructure.

With a view to digital solutions and business models, it is on the one hand a matter of upgrading existing products, for example the digitally controlled, optimized alignment of wind power rotors or the intelligent control of energy networks ("smart grid"). On the other hand, EDT develops new, digital customer solutions, especially in the areas of e-mobility (charging stations - billing), solar storage systems as well as smart homes and smart cities.

Key functions for IT operations are:

Business IT:

Is the central interface between IT and business. The control is carried out by the CIO together with the IT managers of the relevant business area.

Enterprise IT:

Is responsible for the service and life cycle management of all IT infrastructure components and controls the major IT service providers. It also includes all IT services and products that are used by several or even all E.ON companies.

history

Before the two electricity companies PreussenElektra ( VEBA ) and Bayernwerke ( VIAG ) merged to form E.ON Energie in 2000, they had their IT services performed by synergis GmbH and GEDOS mbH . After the merger, is: energy emerged from these two companies in 2001 . The shareholders of the new company were E.ON Energie AG (74.78%) and Cap Gemini Ernst & Young AG (25.22%).

In 2004, 1,300 employees worked at is: energy , spread over more than 30 locations. The first foreign companies were founded in Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

In 2005, Cap Gemini Ernst & Young sold its minority stake to E.ON's regional utility. Specifically, these were E.ON Avacon AG, E.ON Bayern AG, E.DIS AG, E.ON Hanse AG, E.ON Mitte AG, E.ON Thüringer Energie AG and E.ON Westfalen Weser AG. So that was is: energy , which in the course of the change in the E.ON IS renamed, a wholly owned subsidiary of E.ON. In the second half of the year, the E.ON IS Bulgaria and E.ON IS Romania subsidiaries were newly founded. In November, E.ON IS successfully passed certification according to the international quality management standard ISO 9001: 2000 .

The E.ON IS extended its offer in 2006, telecommunications services . At the same time, international expansion was continued. In May 2006, the E.ON IS Sverige subsidiary was founded in Malmö . In the same year, the subsidiary E.ON IS UK was founded . The company has also been represented in southern Europe since the end of 2007. An Italian E.ON-IS branch was opened in Milan .

In 2007, the E.ON-IS group was represented in nine European countries with 2,700 employees. The Dutch subsidiary E.ON IS Netherlands was founded at the end of 2008.

On October 1, 2013, when E.ON Business Services GmbH was founded , the pure IT company became a multifunctional support unit. It bundled group-wide business services for finance and human resources as well as the entire IT control under one roof. Three so-called service towers were supplemented by joint cross-sectional functions and employed around 4,000 people.

In the course of the division of the original E.ON into the new E.ON and Uniper in 2016, as well as the associated strategic realignment of E.ON (Phoenix program), human resources and finances, in particular, were increasingly decentralized again. With the consequence that the EBS was dissolved as a multifunctional support unit on December 31, 2017. From January 1, 2018, EBS GmbH will only be responsible for E.ON's IT. Human resources and finance have been integrated into the respective E.ON SE areas or into the respective country units of E.ON.

With the change in the chairmanship of the management from Edgar Aschenbrenner to Matthew Timms on September 1, 2018 as well as the expansion of the previous "Chief Information Officer" (CIO) role to Chief Digital and Technology Officer, the merging of the two functions Digital and IT / Technology began. This process came to a preliminary conclusion with the renaming of E.ON Business Services to E.ON Digital Technology on February 1, 2019.

IT infrastructure outsourcing

As part of the group-wide PerformtoWin savings program , the E.ON AG Board of Management decided in 2009 to outsource the IT infrastructure to external service providers. However, security-relevant IT systems will continue to be managed by the group itself.

In detail, the outsourcing comprises the following three packages:

The data center and workstation support went to Hewlett-Packard , the communications infrastructure to T-Systems . The deal was awarded with a total volume of 2.8 billion euros (60% to HP, 40% to T-Systems) and a term of 7 years. As part of the transfer of operations, around 1,260 employees at 89 locations in 10 countries and 185,000 assets transferred to the outsourcing partners on April 1, 2011 .
