Energy Region Kassel GmbH & Co. KG

On April 1, 2012, 16 municipalities in the E.ON Mitte supply area founded the Kassel Energy Region and assigned it the concession contracts for the municipal grids for the next 20 years. E.ON Mitte held a 49% stake in the company and contributed parts of its networks.

history

The company was originally founded on September 6, 1929 under the name "Elektrizitäts-Aktiengesellschaft Mitteldeutschland" (EAM) by several municipal power supply companies and Preussische Elektrizitäts AG . The first administration building was at Wilhelmshöher Allee 2. In 2002, the districts, which until then held 59.33% of EAM, sold 32.33% to E.ON Energie AG for approx. 477.3 million euros. In 2005 the name was changed to E.ON Mitte AG. The sales business was transferred to E.ON Mitte Vertrieb GmbH on September 1, 2008.

Remunicipalisation from E.ON Mitte to the EAM Group

On June 2, 2012, it was announced that E.ON would like to sell its shares. The municipalities that hold shares in E.ON Mitte announced on June 4, 2012 through their spokesman that they would be interested in taking over the shares. It was initially planned that the municipalities would receive at least 50 percent of the shares through the buyback, which would have meant an increase of around 23.3 percent. A commitment by Thüga was also under discussion. In 2013 it was decided that the cities and districts would take over the E.ON shares in full. The sale was completed on December 19, 2013 with the transfer of E.ON shares to the municipal shareholders. Since then, the company has been 100 percent municipal owned. The new company has been operating under the founding name of EAM since January 2014 . The sales business of E.ON Vertriebs GmbH was integrated into E.ON Energie Deutschland GmbH.
