The E10 or Transversal Fronterizaist is a road in Ecuador . It is a 453 kilometer east-west route through the north of the country from San Lorenzo to the coast to Puerto El Carmen de Putumayo . Parts of the road are unpaved.

Street description

The E10 begins in the village of San Lorenzo in the far north of Ecuador and runs east from there. The part that joins the E15 is paved. The route runs through the jungle parallel to the border with Colombia . In the east, the E10 leads through deep valleys surrounded by mountains over 4000 meters high. From Salinas the E10 runs together with the E35. A steep section with hairpin bends follows between Salinas and La Paz and climbs to over 2900 meters at Huaca .

The E10 leads through a very winding mountain route along the Colombian border to the southeast and sinks to about 500 meters to Lumbaqui . It is unclear whether the route between Huaca and Lumbaqui is paved. From Lombaqui to Nueva Loja , the E10 is double-numbered with the E45 and is paved. The E10 then runs east through the Amazon jungle and is paved up to about 50 kilometers east of Nueva Loja. In the last part from Tarapoa to Puerto el Carmen de Putumayo only parts are paved. In Puerto El Carmen de Putumayo, the E10 ends on the border with Colombia at the Río Putumayo , over which a small bridge leads.

history

The village of Puerto El Carmen de Putumayo in the Amazon jungle is considered to be the most remote place in Ecuador. The E10 connects smaller cities and settlements and is therefore of little interest, but is the only continuous route in this region, apart from the double-numbered parts with the important north-south routes E15, E35 and E45. The E10 was massively expanded in the 2000s. Only the eastern part and part of the middle are still of poor quality.
