Street description
The E5 starts on the island of Baltra at the local airport. The E5 then leads south and is interrupted by a narrow strait about half a kilometer wide. There is a passenger ferry here. The path leads first to the south-west and then to the south-east to Puerto Ayore. The road is paved and there are two lanes. The road then ends in Puerto Ayora, a small village, but it's the largest town on the route.
history
Baltra was of strategic importance during World War II and there is an airport from the early 1940s that was modernized in 2007-2008. There is no bridge connection between the islands of Baltra and Santa Cruz, only a water taxi. Motor vehicles cannot use the water taxi. The E5 is the westernmost road from the South American continent.
