The E35 or Troncal de la Sierra is a road in Ecuador . The road forms a north-south route through the center of the country, across the Andes from the border with Colombia via Quito, Cuenca and Ambato to the border with Peru near Macará. The E35 is 781 kilometers long.
Street description
The E35 begins on the border with Colombia in Tulcan, where the Colombian RN25 from Pasto becomes the Ecuadorian E35. The road runs south through the Andes to the Quito region. The E35 does not go directly through Quito, but runs east of the city. The E35 mostly runs on a plateau at an altitude of 2,000 to 3,000 meters. The plateau is shaped by higher volcanoes. The highest mountains are the Cotopaxi with 5896 meters and the Chimborazo with 6.267 m height, which are covered with snow. Since Ecuador is at the height of the equator, the snow line is usually over 5,000 meters and in the plateau where the E35 runs the landscape is still green and cultivated. The highest mountain passes on the E35 are around 3,400 to 3,500 meters high, in fact no more than low passes over the plateau.
The route has a double numbering with the E30 and the E50 in Ambato in the south of the country, from Loja to Chivato. In the Cuenca region, the E35 is better developed with partly 2 × 2 lanes and overpasses. South of Cuenca, the E35 is no longer developed as there are no longer any large cities and the road is then very winding with many differences in altitude, this part of the road no longer leads over the plateau, but through valleys and passes. The altitude varies in this section from 1,000 to 2,500 meters and falls below 500 meters on the border with Peru. In Macará follows the border with Peru and the road goes to Sullana.
history
The E35 is largely part of the Panamericana . Traditionally, the main road is in the interior of Ecuador because three of the ten largest cities in Ecuador are connected to it. The southern part south of Cuenca has a lot of height differences and is very time consuming to drive. Various parts of the E35 are placed under concession on these tolls to be paid.
