The EDImedienArena is a football stadium in the Windflöte district of the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Bielefeld , Senne district .

Location and facilities

The stadium is located in the extreme south of the city on the Postheide street and offers space for 2,500 spectators. Since the last renovation in 2019, hybrid turf has been used. The venue has floodlights and a clubhouse.

history

Originally the stadium was called Sportplatz Windflöte and it was played on an ash court . The stadium was used by the Fortuna Windflöte football club , which has not had a team in the game for a long time. The TuS 08 Senne I association used the pitch until 2017, when it received a new artificial turf pitch . In addition, the sports facility was used by company sports teams. After the stadium lay fallow for a few years and was about to be abandoned, Arminia Bielefeld registered her interest in the facility in order to give his women's football department a permanent game and training facility. Before that, the Bielefeld women played on the Stadtheide sports field or the Quelle Waldstadion and had to use various sports fields in and around Bielefeld for training.

Finally, Arminia Bielefeld signed a 15-year lease with the city of Bielefeld . The previous ash space was replaced by a hybrid lawn. The construction work for this began in April 2019 and cost around 500,000 euros . The construction costs were borne by private individuals. Club funds were not invested. The name sponsor is EDImedien from Leopoldshöhe , whose owner Hans-Jürgen Laufer is also President of Arminia Bielefeld. On August 17, 2019, Arminia's women's team played a home game in the EDImedien Arena for the first time in the second division match against Bayern Munich II .
