The EHC Wetzikon is a Swiss ice hockey club from Wetzikon in the canton of Zurich , which currently participates in the first division , the fourth highest league level in Switzerland.

history

The EHC Wetzikon was founded in 1949. In the 1964/65 season, promotion to the first division was realized. 1979/80 of promotion to the National League B . Against opponents such as Zürcher SC , HC Ambrì-Piotta and HC Lugano , the league was initially won. After five seasons in the second highest league, the EHC Wetzikon finally rose again in 1985 to the first division. Due to financial difficulties, the club decided to start over in the 3rd division. After the immediate promotion to the second division was successful, the club took part in the first division again three years later. In this he was represented almost continuously since 1989, before the renewed fall into the 2nd division took place in 2012. Since 2014 the EHC Wetzikon has been playing in the first division again. In 2018 the Zurich Oberland champions became champions in the first division .

Fans

The EHCW fan club was founded over 35 years ago. Its membership is consistently around 120 active fans, who are also represented in large numbers at away games. You support the EHC Wetzikon actively, partly financially, with various activities.

The club has a relatively constant audience of around 500 spectators per game.

The Wetzikon artificial ice rink consists of two halls. The 1st team carries out the championship games in the larger hall, which has a capacity of approx. 4000 spectators (including 1500 seats), while training often takes place in the smaller hall, which is right next door. The small hall has ice all year round, while the large hall is available in the summer months for trade fair events, concerts, festivals, parties, general meetings, etc. The Wetzikon artificial ice rink is just a few minutes' walk from Wetzikon train station. Parking spaces are available by the hall.
