ES6
ES6 was the name of a 1955 featured trolleybus - prototype in the GDR . The loner combined the concept of the electric drive with the already tried and tested idea of the double- decker articulated buses . The vehicle manufactured by LOWA , however, could not result in series production, among other things because from 1957 the GDR was only allowed to import Czechoslovak Škoda trolleybuses as a result of a resolution by the Council for Mutual Economic Aid.
history
The almost 15 meter long vehicle was designed in 1953 by VEB motor vehicle factory "Ernst Grube" Werdau , the electrical equipment came from Lokomotivbau Elektrotechnische Werke Hans Beimler Hennigsdorf . The car intended for the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) in East Berlin was initially tested on the Zwickau trolleybus from April 1955 . The first test drives were carried out there on the Weißenborn – Lichtentanne – Stenn route.
In October 1955 he finally started his service with the BVG. The combination was included in the regular inventory there under the road numbers 2001 for the tractor and 201 for the semi-trailer . It was used exclusively on the O40 inner city line and was always manned by specially trained staff. After the test vehicle was parked, the tractor was initially converted into a tow truck in 1966/67 , before it was finally scrapped in 1971 - two years before the Berlin trolleybus operation was stopped.
description
The 15-meter-long ES6 offered 62 seats (42 on the upper deck and 20 on the lower deck) and standing room (three on the top and 39 on the bottom). The trailer was largely identical to that of the DoSa S6 articulated buses . To facilitate communication between the driver and the conductor , a loudspeaker system was installed, which could also be used to call the stops on both floors . The passenger flow principle, the stepless lower deck, the central aisle on the upper floor and the low-floor technology with an entry height of just 38 centimeters were also modern for the time . Furthermore, the conductor had a permanent seat .
Since normal trolley retrievers could not be used due to the principle involved, the tractor was equipped with a pneumatic device for attaching and removing the angled pantograph rods . In terms of design, the ES6 tractor was very similar to the conventional LOWA W602a trolleybus type , for example the front end was identical. It also had a diesel-electric auxiliary drive , which produced around 130 volts and enabled slow maneuvering. The tractor also had a fan system with which the fresh air was fed into the trailer in the summer via a wind tunnel. In winter, the air drawn in was heated by an electrical heat exchanger.
