Career as a journalist

In 1990 Brzezinski started a journalistic career as an employee in the editorial office of the ABC broadcast World News This Morning . In 1992 she moved to WTIC-TV in Hartford , Connecticut . In 1995 she took over the moderation of the station's weekday news program. In 1997 Brzezinski left WTIC to work for the news department at CBS. There she was employed as a correspondent and anchor woman for the nightly information program Up to the Minute .

In 2000, Brzezinski was hired by the cable news broadcaster MSNBC to host the afternoon show Home Page , which she led with Gina Gaston and Ashleigh Banfield . In September 2001, she returned to CBS as a correspondent. Immediately after taking up this job, she witnessed the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York, reporting live on the collapse of the so-called South Tower. In January 2007, Brzezinski returned to MSNBC, where she has since co- hosted the political program Morning Joe , a breakfast news program with Joe Scarborough . While Scarborough is a member of the Republican Party , Brzezinski is a member of the Democrats . In addition, she occasionally takes on duties as a guest presenter on other programs on MSNBC, such as 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue .

Mika Brzezinski attracted attention when Republican presidential candidate John McCain called her in October 2008 as a supporter of his opponent Barack Obama , thereby calling her journalistic integrity into question. Since December 8, 2008, Brzezinski and Scarborough have also hosted a two-hour program on the New York City-based radio station WABC.

In January 2011, she said on the news broadcast that it was not newsworthy to mention Sarah Palin's reaction to President Obama's speech on the Tucson shooting .

The "Hilton Incident"

Brzezinski caused a stir in 2007 when, in an issue of Morning Joe, she persistently refused to read a report about the release from prison of the hotel heiress Paris Hilton . She justified this step with the fact that she could not discover any informational value for the audience in this message and that she was also tired of the constant media presence of Hilton anyway. Following the first explanation of this stance in conversation with her co-moderators, Brzezinski tore up the paper with the news about Hilton; a little later it referred for a reading copy with the same message she hunted through the shredder . While the co-moderators and producers of Morning Joe received the scene with confusion or irritation, Brzezinski found widespread recognition by the audience, which was reflected in a large number of positive e-mails and interest in video clips from the scene.

Insult by Donald Trump

Mika Brzezinski sharply criticized US President Donald Trump in one of her programs. In June 2017 she accused him, among other things, of tweeting about the appearance of people and of lying every day. Trump would undermine the authority of his staff; abuse them as pawn sacrifices .

Then Trump insulted the MSNBC journalist in several tweets, denigrating her as the "crazy Mika with the low IQ" and her co-moderators and partner Joe Scarborough as "Psycho Joe".

A number of Republicans were critical of Trump's tweets. Even a commentator on the conservative broadcaster Fox News said: "Anyone who is not paid by him, it is very clear that he has crossed a line." Trump spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders , however, said Trump retaliated fire with fire.
