Henry Danvers, 1st Earl of Danby

Earl of Danby was a hereditary British title of nobility awarded twice in the Peerage of England .

Awards

For the first time the title was created on February 1, 1626 for the general and statesman Henry Danvers, 1st Baron Danvers . He had already been raised to Baron Danvers , of Dauntsey in the County of Wiltshire , on July 21, 1603, also in the Peerage of England . Both titles expired on January 29, 1644, when the Earl died unmarried and childless.

In the second award, the title was newly created on June 27, 1674 for Thomas Osborne, 1st Viscount Latimer . This was a great-nephew of the earl's first award. In 1689 he was also raised to Marquess of Carmarthen and in 1694 to Duke of Leeds . The Earldom has since been a subordinate title of the respective duke and finally expired when the 12th duke died on March 20, 1964.
