Earl of Dudley , of Dudley Castle in the County of Stafford , is a hereditary British title of nobility created twice in the Peerage of the United Kingdom . In both cases, the award was made to a member of the Ward family.

Awards

The title was first awarded in 1827 to John William Ward, 4th Viscount Dudley and Ward . This was British Foreign Secretary at the time . He died in 1833 without leaving a descendant, so that the title became extinct.

Simultaneously with the two earliest honors, the title of Viscount Ednam , of Ednam in the County of Roxburgh , who belongs to the Peerage of the United Kingdom, was awarded. The respective title heir leads this dignity as a courtesy title .

Another title

The sixth Baron Ward was raised to Viscount Dudley and Ward , of Dudley in the County of Worcester in 1763 . This title, which belonged to the Peerage of Great Britain , expired in 1833 with the death of the first earl.
