The number of participants in the Easter hedge is limited to several hundred people, in contrast to the larger events of the CCC ( Chaos Communication Congress , Chaos Communication Camp ), which attract several thousand visitors. Workshops and lectures are offered at the Easterhegg . A trademark of the Easter hedge is the breakfast included in the admission price until the evening including a coffee flat rate , for which each participant receives a personal souvenir mug. This should emphasize the cozy, communicative character of the event.

history

At Easterhegg 2007, researchers from the TU Darmstadt demonstrated for the first time how the WLAN encryption algorithm WEP can be cracked in less than a minute.

Until 2011, the Easterhegg always took place in Hamburg in odd years and in between in other cities. Previous venues have been Düsseldorf (2002), Munich (2004, 2010), Vienna (2006, 2019) and Cologne (2008). In 2012 the Easterhegg took place in Basel . On June 27, 2012 it was announced that the Easterhegg 2013 will not take place in Hamburg as expected, but in Paderborn. The reason given was the expected decision in favor of Hamburg as the venue for the Chaos Communication Congress 2012 (29C3). In 2014 the Easterhegg took place in Stuttgart.

Eventphone DECT with claim token at Easterhegg 2018.

At Easterhegg 2018, the Phone Operation Center presented a completely newly developed DECT solution with a self-registration function. Above all, this should serve as a test for the 35C3 to check how the system behaves with simultaneous registrations of many participants. During the event, significant changes were made to the software and critical bugs were fixed. In order to expose the system to a new stress test, after more than 200 telephones were registered, all visitors' telephones were de-registered on April 1 at 4:00 p.m. and they were asked to re-register via a house announcement. The test was successful.

The 2020 edition was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic .
