description

The Hackcenter tent 2003

The Chaos Communication Camp offers information events in German and English on technical and social topics such as B. Data protection , freedom of information and data security . It is supplemented by workshops and around 30 “Villages”, which should correspond to tent cities with a thematic focus. In 2007 there was a charter flight from the DEFCON conference in Las Vegas via Frankfurt am Main to the camp site as part of the Hackers on a Plane project .

Nocturnal light installations 2007

In an “Art & Beauty” area, artistic areas of technology such as light installations or music are presented. Each participant has the opportunity to set up their own tent including a computer and to connect to the camp's own electricity network and a fast internet connection. In addition to radio distributors , toilets equipped with network technology (so-called data toilets) are made available to network the site.

In addition to magazines from the information industry, the conventional media and television stations also report on the event.

2015

Since the Mildenberg brickworks park did not have sufficient infrastructure, a 2.5-kilometer fiber optic cable was laid there from a nearby high-voltage pylon in preparation for the 2015 Chaos Communication Camp. This supplied the camp with a symmetrical 10 gigabit leased line. Electricity was not available in sufficient quantities, so diesel gensets with a total output of around 1.8 megawatts were installed.

4,500 participants from 20 countries were expected. Around 18,000 computers, smartphones, etc. were connected to the camp's network.

Topics included the treason affair surrounding netzpolitik.org , women in the hacker scene, bio-hacking and the emancipation of refugees.

Similar events

In England the Electromagnetic Field takes place in even years . In the odd years in which no CCCamp takes place, similar events take place in the Netherlands under different names, which have emerged from the now discontinued Dutch hacker magazine Hack-Tic .
