geography

Eberfingen is located on the Wutach on the border with Switzerland and the canton of Schaffhausen .

history

The place is first mentioned as Eperolfvingga in 929 in a document from the St. Gallen monastery. Eperulf, who was murdered in 584, is named as a chamberlain of the Frankish King Chilparich . Hugo von Eberfingen is mentioned in 1275. The Eberfingen iron smelting works existed from 1501 to 1760, in which mainly floor ore was smelted. In 1622, the monastery of St. Blasien the Fürstenbergs and the Counts of Sulz , the Counts of Leiningen and Landgrave Maximilian von Stühlingen were involved. At Eberfingen there was a quarry from which stones were extracted for the Lausheim-Blumegg spiral tunnel and for the Koblenz-Waldshut Rhine bridge . In addition, well troughs were made from the tuff rock.

traffic

Eberfingen is located on the B314 and has a (disused) train station on the Wutachtalbahn , which in 2014 served as the location for the ARD feature film “ Endstation Glück ”.
