Eberhard Grießbach

Eberhard Grießbach (born October 3, 1935 in Chemnitz ) is a former German rear admiral in the People's Navy .

Military career

As the son of a tailor Grießbach occurred after graduating from high school on August 11, 1954 as a student officer in the People's Police lake , the forerunner of the People's Navy of the GDR, a. In 1956 he became a member of the SED . Until 1958 he attended the officers' college in Stralsund . After his officer training, Grießbach was released from production from 1958 to 1959 and worked as an electric welder at the Peene shipyard in Wolgast . After his return to the navy, Grießbach became the commander of a torpedo speedboat in 1960 , later a rocket speedboat (RS-Boot). In 1963 he moved to the 1st speedboat division of the 6th Flotilla as chief of staff and navigation officer . From 1965 to 1966 he was head of the 1st rocket speedboat department of the same flotilla , after which he attended the NVA military academy in Dresden until 1969 .

He was then chief of the 3rd Rocket Speedboat Department until 1970, chief of the Torpedo Speedboat Brigade until 1971 and finally chief of the 3rd Rocket Speedboat Brigade. In 1974, Grießbach rose to become Deputy Chief and Chief of Staff of the 6th Flotilla. On May 1, 1983, he took over from their boss Hans-Joachim Dönitz as captain at sea , and on March 1, 1986 he was appointed rear admiral. He held this position until 1987. Subsequently, he took over the function of deputy chief of training and combat training in the command of the People's Navy until 1988. In 1988 he became Deputy Chief of the People's Navy and Chief of Training there. Grießbach held this position until his dismissal on September 30, 1990.
