Eberhard Hölscher

Eberhard Hölscher (born February 12, 1890 in Geesthacht ; † August 27, 1969 in Munich ) was a German commercial artist , specialist book author , editor and publisher .

Life

Hölscher studied in Berlin, Paris and Munich; In 1920 he received his doctorate with a dissertation on the literary and personal relationships between Julius von Voss and Johann Wilhelm Ludwig Gleim at the University of Kiel . From 1925 he was Secretary General of the Association of German Commercial Graphics and its President from 1948 to 1965. From 1937 on he was the publisher and editor-in-chief of the magazine Nutzgraphik , founded by KH Frenzel in 1924 , with the explanatory subtitle Monthly for the Promotion of Artistic Advertising , which was also distributed in the USA. After the magazine had to be discontinued in 1944, Hölscher re- founded it in 1950 at Bruckmann Verlag in Munich. In the 1950s, Hölscher taught at the master school for the graphic arts in Munich.

In 1955, Hölscher published the monograph The Draftsman Th. Th. Heine . In the preface he describes his encounter with Thomas Theodor Heine , who had been hiding under a false name since 1933 and who had fled to Berlin, where Hölscher lived. Neither of them knew each other personally until then, but they were in correspondence.
