from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Eberhard II von Eppstein-Königstein (* around 1380 in Eppstein; † on July 3, 1443 Königstein im Taunus, buried in the Markuskirche in Butzbach ) was a nobleman of the younger line of the Eppstein family . The Eppsteiners, who succeeded in establishing one of the most important aristocratic rule in Hesse in the late Middle Ages and who were wealthy in Spessart, Taunus and Wetterau as early as 1200, were noble lords and in the 13th century had four archbishops and electors from Mainz .

Life

Eberhard II von Eppstein was the son of Eberhard I von Eppstein and his third wife Luitgard von Falkenstein .

From his marriage to Agnes von Kronberg (marriage between September 13, 1408 and November 18, 1412) the following descendants emerged:

The following children were previously born:

  • Hen the Elder from Eppstein (* 1406 in Eppstein, † 1453)
  • Heinz von Eppstein (* around 1408 in Königstein, † 1468/69 or on January 6, 1469 in Frankfurt am Main), mother: Kunze Conz (civil, no marriage, * unknown, † before September 1, 1434) or Kunigunde Kunz

After the death of his uncle Werner von Falkenstein (from 1388 to 1418 as Werner III. Archbishop and Elector of Trier ), large estates in the Taunus and Wetterau fell in 1418 to his three sisters, including Eberhard's mother Luitgard von Falkenstein . The division of the inheritance into three equal parts took place on May 24, 1419 in Butzbach. As part of this Butzbach division into the Hainer third, the Licher third and the Butzbacher third, the Lich third fell by lot to the House of Solms and the Butzbacher third to Eberhard II of Eppstein-Königstein and his brother Gottfried VII of Eppstein .

A few years later, the brothers regulated the use, administration and maintenance of the two rulership centers of Eppstein and Königstein .: With the Eppstein fraternal division in 1433, the rulership was divided: Eppstein-Königstein under Eberhard II of Eppstein-Königstein moved into Königstein Castle as his residence , while the Eppstein- Munzenbergers continued to reside at Eppstein Castle under Gottfried VII von Eppstein .

In 1437 he signed the founding deed of the Hirzenhain Monastery .

In 1442 he resigned from the rule of Eppstein-Königstein. He spent the last year of his life in Butzbach , where he was also buried in the Markuskirche (Butzbach) .
