Eberhard I. (Eppstein)

Eberhard I. von Eppstein (* around 1337 in Eppstein; † between May 28, 1391 and October 16, 1391 ) was a nobleman of the younger line of the Eppstein family . The Eppsteiners, who succeeded in establishing one of the most important aristocratic rule in Hesse in the late Middle Ages and who were wealthy in Spessart, Taunus and Wetterau as early as 1200, were noble lords and in the 13th century had four archbishops and electors from Mainz .

Life

Eberhard I. von Eppstein was the son of Gottfried V. von Eppstein and his wife Liutgard von Breuberg .

    • Johann von Eppstein (* unknown, † after 1418): clergyman, between 1417 and 1418 canon in the Archbishopric of Trier
    • Elisabeth von Eppstein (* unknown, † 1422): married to Philipp VIII., Herr von Falkenstein & zu Münzenberg (wedding before October 16, 1380)
    • Eberhard von Eppstein (* unknown, † April 23, 1382)
  • from his marriage to Luitgard von Falkenstein :

With his third marriage to Luitgard von Falkenstein, Eberhard I established the claim to the Falkenstein inheritance, from which his sons (Gottfried VII. And Eberhard II. Von Eppstein-Königstein) received the "Butzbacher Third" in 1419, including Königstein and Kransberg .
