Eberhard Isenmann

Eberhard Isenmann (born December 4, 1944 in Ulm ) is a German historian .

Eberhard Isenmann studied English, German and history as well as political science, philosophy and education at the University of Tübingen from 1964 to 1969 . In 1969 he passed the academic examination for teaching at grammar schools in the subjects of German and history.

From 1971 to 1974 he was the administrator of a research assistant at the History Department of the University of Tübingen, at that time still in the Department of Modern History. He received his doctorate in 1975 and then held a position as a research assistant at the Department of Modern History at the University of Tübingen's Department of History from 1975 to 1985. The habilitation took place in 1983 for the subject Middle and Modern History at the University of Tübingen. From 1985 to 1989 he taught in Tübingen as a professor (C2) and devoted himself to the field of "Constitutional History of the Late Middle Ages and Modern Times". In 1990 he was appointed adjunct professor and professor at the universities in Tübingen and Mannheim . In 1992 he was appointed to the C3 professorship for the subject of medieval history at the University of Essen and from 1993 to 1999 he taught as a university professor (C4) the subject of medieval history, in particular the history of the late Middle Ages at the Ruhr University of Bochum . From 1999 Isenmann taught as a professor for the history of the late Middle Ages at the University of Cologne . He retired on April 1, 2010.

His main areas of teaching and research include city ​​history , economic history , as well as constitutional and legal history . Isenmann has published various publications on this. His 1988 treatise on the history of the German city in the late Middle Ages became a standard work. A completely revised and considerably expanded version of the work was published in 2012.
