Eberhard Klaschik

Eberhard Jochen Klaschik (born March 18, 1943 in Beuthen , Upper Silesia ) is a German medic. He is considered the nestor of palliative medicine in Germany.

Life

Eberhard Klaschik studied from 1963 in Mainz, Kiel and Cologne medicine, 1968, he was approved in 1970 a doctorate . In 1981 he qualified as a professor in anesthesiology . From 1983 he was involved in the establishment of the first palliative care unit at Cologne University Hospital and in 1984 became chief physician at the Malteser Hospital in Bonn, where a palliative care unit and home care service were set up from 1990 with the support of the German Cancer Aid , a training center and a publishing house followed. From 1986 Klaschik was an adjunct professor for anesthesia at the University of Cologne, from 1999 the first holder of a chair for palliative medicine in Germany - at the University Hospital Bonn . In 2008 Klaschik retired . Lukas Radbruch was his successor at the University Hospital and Malteser Hospital Bonn .

Klaschik made an organizational contribution to the establishment of palliative medical structures in Germany and scientifically the symptom control of palliative medical patients in pain and shortness of breath. With Stein Husebø he wrote a standard work on palliative medicine. In 1994 Klaschik co-founded the German Society for Palliative Medicine , whose secretary was from 1996 to 1998 and its president from 1998 to 2006. From 2003 to 2005 he was a member of the study commission on ethics and law in modern medicine of the German Bundestag .

Awards and honors

Eberhard Klaschik was awarded the German Pain Prize in 2004 and the German Pain Prize Prize in 2008. In 2009 he received the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon and the German Cancer Aid Prize 2018 "for his significant commitment and services in the development of palliative medical care structures and for his pioneering commitment to the strategic development of palliative medicine in Germany" .
