Eberhard von Alen (dates of birth unknown; † 1342 probably in Lübeck ) was mayor of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck.

Life

Eberhard von Alen was the son of the dressmaker of the same name . The von Alen family, who had become advisable in Lübeck, had immigrated from Aalen in Württemberg . In addition, there were at least two other families of the same name in Lübeck in the Middle Ages, who were not related to one another. Eberhard von Alen was the nephew of councilor Diedrich von Alen , who had been a member of the council from 1301 to 1325. His nephew Eberhard was elected as consul in the council in 1327 and is proven to be the town's mayor from 1340 to 1342.

Together with the councilman Johann von Schepenstede donated Eberhard von Alen 1337 the Marienkirche in Lübeck , the baptismal font made of bronze. This fifth shows a circumferential relief on the outside , with people and scenes from salvation history, so below with the wise and foolish virgins and above, for example, with the apostles . It was cast by Hans Apengeter and is now in the center of the church's choir. Alen was the owner of a Kosmark estate on the Danish island of Lolland , which he sold to Count Johann III in 1332 . sold by Holstein . He was also one of the co-executors of the estate of Bishop Heinrich II Bochholt . The mayor of Lübeck, Tidemann Warendorp, was his son-in-law.
