Eberhard von Gemmingen († 1501 ), called the Younger or the Chamber Master , came from the family of the Lords of Gemmingen from their early tribe B (Hornberg). He was chef , steward and chamberlain Elector I. Friedrich .

Life

Eberhard was an older son of Eberhard the deaf († 1479) and Barbara von Neipperg . On the occasion of his wedding in 1457 he received part of his property from his father. The father also endowed Eberhard's brother Hans (1431–1487) with property, while six other brothers entered the clergy. In 1460 he took part in the battle of Pfeddersheim with his father and brother Hans and ten horses on the side of Elector Friedrich . The family's commitment to the Palatinate at that time brought them fiefs and high Palatinate offices.

In 1473, Count Palatine Friedrich warned the city of Heilbronn to be vigilant towards Jörg von Rosenberg, who had led the chamber master Eberhard von Gemmingen away as a prisoner.

In 1476 Eberhard von Gemmingen and his brothers Hans and Weiprecht were enfeoffed with the secret annex in Gemmingen Castle.

The inheritance of the father, who died in 1479, caused a protracted dispute between the sons, as the younger son Reinhard († 1483) had resigned from the clergy and made claims against Eberhard and his brother Hans. In 1476 Eberhard achieved that Reinhard lost the Speyrian fiefdom in Gemmingen and instead he was enfeoffed with it. In 1479, Count Palatine Philipp ordered that the property should be divided equally among the brothers. The inheritance disputes continued after the father's death. Brother Reinhard also left debts, which is why Eberhard sold half of Kochertürn's fishing water in 1493 to pay off the debts.
