The MS-Technologie-Arena , until 2011 the Stadion am Friedengrund , is a football stadium in the Baden-Württemberg city of Villingen-Schwenningen . The plant is the venue for the present in the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg playing soccer club FC 08 Villingen . It holds around 8,000 spectators, has 800 covered seats and a covered standing grandstand for almost 2,500 visitors.

history

Paul Riegger grandstand

In 1960, the first point games of FC 08 Villingen (Black Forest Bodensee League) took place on the newly created sports facilities in Friedengrund. On October 5, 1969, the new main grandstand, which offers space for 800 visitors, was opened to the audience for the first time in the game against VfR Mannheim (1-0). However, the roof was not yet finished. A covered standing grandstand for 2,500 spectators was built on the south side, which was financed by the then first chairman Paul Riegger. The expansion of the space under the main grandstand was completed in 1980 before the grandstand itself was completely renovated in 1995. In 2001, the side square below the stadium was converted into artificial turf . This place with a small grandstand is an alternative location for the games of FC 08 Villingen. In 2008 a new lawn was laid. The stadium was now suitable for the regional league.

The attendance record dates back to January 4, 1970, when the 1: 3 game in the first main round of the 1969/70 DFB Cup between FC 08 Villingen and Hamburger SV attracted 15,149 spectators. In the 2006/07 season, the Friedengrund Stadium experienced the best-attended league game for almost 30 years in the Oberliga match between FC 08 Villingen and SSV Ulm 1846, with almost 2,800 spectators .

In 2011, the manufacturer of electric motors and fans ebm-papst became the name sponsor of the stadium, which until 2019 was called ebm-papst-Stadion .

If FC 08 Villingen were to be promoted from the Baden-Württemberg Football League 2017/18 to the Southwest Football Regionalliga 2018/19 , the stadium would have to be adapted to the requirements of the fourth division. For this purpose, the city council provided a sum of one million euros on April 25, 2018. Among other things, a ball catch fence must be erected. In addition, a separate area for guest fans with 600 seats with breakwaters is planned in the area of the covered opposite stand and the standing room that has already been renovated. Emergency exits are necessary for standing room in the opposite stand. Containers are to be used for kiosks and sanitary facilities . The largest cost item at around 450,000 euros is intended for a floodlight system that complies with the rules . In the long term, the grandstand and standing room will also be renovated. To do this, another million euros would have to be invested.

As announced on January 24, 2019 in a press release by the city of Villingen-Schwenningen and FC 08 Villingen, the stadium will now bear the sponsor name MS-Technologie-Arena , after MS Ultraschall Technologie GmbH from Spaichingen . The contract is designed for a term of ten years. Neither the city nor the association provided information about the financial volume of the agreement. The contract also includes investments in the stadium in the six-figure range. Around two weeks after the announcement of the new stadium name, the city, the club and the sponsor announced extensive renovations to the stadium on February 4th. The primary goal is to make the venue suitable for the regional league for the coming season. The floodlight system would have to be upgraded because the DFB requires at least 800 lux illuminance for television broadcasts . Furthermore, the adaptation of the security concept in the guest area is planned. In addition to the renovation, breakwaters are also to be installed. In addition, the edge of the field as well as the sanitary technology and the kiosks will be upgraded. In addition to the required by the DFB action arises in the main grandstand currently a new VIP - Loge . In addition, the heating and the roof will be completely renovated. The capacity of around 5,000 visitors is retained in any case. The parties involved did not provide any more precise information about the costs. The city is providing EUR 1.13 million in a supplementary budget .

On 30 July 2019, the newly installed was LED - floodlights inaugurated symbolically. In the evening, Mayor Jürgen Roth , Mayor Detlev Bührer and FC 08 club president Leo Grimm put the system into operation for the first time. The lighting system is part of the investment of 1.2 million euros in making the stadium suitable for the regional league.
