Ebony Browne (born September 25, 1974 in Watsonville , California , USA ; † January 27, 2007 in Portland , Oregon , USA; actually Alice Ebony Browne-Cunningham , also Cancer Diva ) was an American singer-songwriter .

Life

In 1993 a friend gave her a guitar "so that the ongoing singing got a basis" , which encouraged Ebony to become a singer-songwriter. Three days later she had already composed her first 5 songs and only three months later her first solo performance. Within a year she released her first album Swollen , which made her the Official Folk Singer of the Northern California skate and snowboard scene .

From 1995 to 2006 Ebony lived in Berlin, where she was a member of the Mexx Schlüpfers R-Volk Ensemble with Christoph Schlingensief from 1997 to 1998 .

In 1999 she played her music in the film Salamander , which was shown as one of the few German contributions with a great response at the 2001 Berlinale.

From 1999 to 2003 the film Rosa or What Color Is Life! that begins and ends with their music.

During the whole time of her stay in Berlin she is one of the first musical guests on the Berlin reading stages , especially the reform stage Heim & Welt , the Chaussee der Enthusiast and the surf poet , where she became known with the song tow truck .

In 2003 Ebony Browne was on tour with the writer Jakob Hein for the publication of his book Forms of Human Coexistence.

She played the guitar and sang songs from the singer-songwriter genre that she composed herself. Ebony Brown couldn't remember a time in her life that she didn't sing.

She died on January 27, 2007 , after returning to the USA, of breast cancer.
