Echinocereus longisetus is a species of plant in the genus Echinocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). Thespecific epithet longisetus means 'long-bristled'.
description
Echinocereus longisetus branches from the base and forms large groups up to 1 meter in diameter. The more or less upright cylindrical shoots are 30 to 50 centimeters long and 5 to 8 centimeters in diameter. There are eleven to 24 low ribs that are humped. The four to nine bristle to hair-like central spines are straight or curly and directed downwards. They are whitish to brownish and have a length of 1 to 10 centimeters. The 15 to 20 white radial spines are 1 to 2 inches long.
The funnel-shaped flowers are slightly pinkish purple in color. They never appear near the shoot tips, but sometimes almost basal. The flowers are 5 to 7 centimeters long and 6 to 7 centimeters in diameter.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Echinocereus longisetus is common in the Mexican states of Coahuila and Nuevo León .
The first description as Cereus longisetus by George Engelmann was published in 1856. Charles Lemaire placed the species in the genus Echinocereus in 1858 . The following subspecies are distinguished:

- Echinocereus longisetus subsp. delaetii (pickle) NPTaylor
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
