Echinopsis escayachensis is a species of the genus Echinopsis in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet escayachensis refers to the occurrence of the species at Escayache in the Bolivian province of Eustaquio Méndez .

description

Echinopsis escayachensis grows tree-shaped, branches out from the base and reaches heights of 3 to 4 meters. The cylindrical shoots are more or less upright and have a diameter of 30 to 40 centimeters. There are 14 to 16 ribs that are up to 2 centimeters high. The gray areoles on them are 1.5 to 2 centimeters apart. The awkward thorns that spring from them are gray. The single central spine is 4 to 6 inches long. The nine to twelve radial spines have a length of 2 to 4 centimeters.

The funnel-shaped, white flowers are 15 to 17 centimeters long. The spherical, dark green fruits reach a diameter of up to 5 centimeters.

Distribution and systematics

Echinopsis escayachensis is widespread in the Bolivian Department of Tarija in the province of Eustaquio Méndez .

The first description as Trichocereus escayachensis by Martín Cárdenas was published in 1963. Heimo Friedrich and Gordon Douglas Rowley placed the species in 1974 in the genus Echinopsis .

Another nomenclature synonym is Helianthocereus escayachensis (Cárdenas) Backeb. (1966).
