Echinopsis hystrichoides is a species of the genus Echinopsis in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet hystrichoides is derived from the Greek words hystrix for 'porcupine' or 'hedgehog' and -oides for 'resemble' and refers to the thorny shoots of the species.

Echinopsis hystrichoides usually grows individually. The flattened, spherical, green shoots reach a diameter of 12 to 18 centimeters. There are 16 to 21, up to 1.8 centimeters high ribs that are sharply notched. The sunken, whitish areoles located on them are up to 2 centimeters apart. Light yellow to dark brown thorns arise from them . The four to ten, straight or curved central spines are 2.5 to 6 inches long. The twelve to 20 needle-like radial spines have a length of 1.4 to 4 centimeters.
The broad, funnel-shaped, white flowers open at night. They are up to 19 inches long. The green fruits reach a length of up to 4 centimeters and a diameter of 3 centimeters.
Distribution and systematics
Echinopsis hystrichoides is distributed in the Bolivian department of Chuquisaca in the province of Sud Cinti at altitudes of 3000 meters.
The first description by Friedrich Ritter was published in 1980.
Gonzalo Navarro treated Echinopsis hystrichoides in 1996 as a synonym for Echinopsis mamillosa .
