Echinopsis tarmaensis is a species of the genus Echinopsis in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet tarmaensis refers to the occurrence of the species near Tarma in the Peruvian region of Junín.

Echinopsis tarmaensis grows shrubby , branching from the base with more or less upright branches and reaches heights of up to 2 meters. The cylindrical, dark green shoots have a diameter of up to 10 centimeters. There are about eight ribs that are notched. The gray areoles on them are somewhat sunk. From them arise honey-colored thorns that turn gray with age. The usually single central spine protrudes horizontally and is up to 10 centimeters long. The two to five radiating radial spines have a length of 1 to 3 centimeters.

The flowers are white. Your flower tube is woolly long. The fruits are 3 to 4 centimeters in diameter.

Distribution and systematics

Echinopsis tarmaensis is widespread in the Peruvian region of Junín near Tarma on dry slopes at altitudes of 2800 to 3000 meters.

The first description as Trichocereus tarmaensis by Werner Rauh and Curt Backeberg was published in 1956. Heimo Friedrich and Gordon Douglas Rowley placed the species in 1974 in the genus Echinopsis .
