description

Echinopsis tegeleriana grows individually or sometimes forms small groups. The spherical, green shoots reach a diameter of up to 9 centimeters. They form a large taproot . There are about 16 clearly obliquely offset ribs , which are divided into ax-shaped cusps. The areoles on them are elongated and up to 1.7 centimeters apart. From them arise ten to twelve horn-colored, slightly curved thorns , which have a darker tip and a length of 1 to 2 centimeters. The longest spike is occasionally hooked.

The red to orange or yellow flowers have a more or less pink-orange throat and appear on the side of the shoots. They are up to 4 inches long. In relation to the bracts , the tube is short. The spherical, green fruits are thin-skinned and juicy. They are usually thorny with increasing maturity and reach a diameter of up to 2.5 centimeters.
