Echinopsis tunariensis is a species of the genus Echinopsis in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet tunariensis refers to the occurrence of the species on Cerro Tunari in Bolivia.

Echinopsis tunariensis grows columnar, branches out from the base and reaches heights of 2 to 3 meters. The club-shaped to cylindrical, cloudy green shoots have a diameter of up to 12 centimeters. There are 16 to 21 sharp-edged  ribs . The oval areoles on them are gray and are up to 1 centimeter apart. From them arise about 17  thorns , which cannot be differentiated into central and peripheral spines. Some of the radiating needle-like thorns point downwards. They are bendable and have a length of 0.5 to 6 centimeters.

The funnel-shaped, white flowers appear near the shoot tips and open at night. They are 15 to 17 centimeters long and have a diameter of 12 to 15 centimeters. The spherical, green fruits have a diameter of 5 centimeters and are up to 4 centimeters long.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Echinopsis tunariensis is widespread in the Bolivian department of Cochabamba in the province of Cercado on Cerro Tunari at altitudes of 3000 to 3800 meters.

The first description as Trichocereus tunariensis by Martín Cárdenas was published in 1959. Heimo Friedrich and Gordon Douglas Rowley placed the species in 1974 in the genus Echinopsis .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
