Diógenes da Silva Matthes

Diógenes da Silva Matthes (born October 12, 1931 in Caconde ; † November 20, 2016 ) was a Brazilian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Franca .

Life

Diógenes da Silva Matthes was ordained a priest for the diocese of Ribeirão Preto on June 29, 1957 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on March 11, 1971 as the first bishop of the newly established diocese of Franca . The Apostolic Nuncio in Brazil, Archbishop Umberto Mozzoni , donated him episcopal ordination on June 11 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Bernardo José Bueno Miele , Coadjutor Archbishop of Ribeirão Preto, and Luíz Eugênio Pérez , Bishop of Jales .

On November 29, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement.
