Eckart Förster (psychiatrist)

Eckart Förster (born June 3, 1920 in Freiberg ; † September 1, 1999 in Essen ) was a German child and youth psychiatrist.

Life

After graduating from the Realgymnasium Radebeul in 1939 and completing his compulsory service in the Reich Labor Service , he studied preclinical studies at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg . After the Physikum , he served in the intelligence service in 1941/42 and as a field doctor in the reserve in the Wehrmacht medical service . Wounded in Russia , he was allowed to continue studying medicine at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn from the winter semester 1942/43 . In the summer semester of 1943 he moved to the University of Leipzig . As a member of a student company , he became active in Corps Misnia IV in 1943 . He fought two lengths . In 1944 he was one of the ten corps students who decided on the conspiratorial reconstitution of the KSCV . In 1949 he was transferred to the Corps Lusatia Leipzig , which was then based in Erlangen . In 1945 he was promoted to Dr. med. PhD . After training as a child and youth psychiatrist with Werner Wagner in Leipzig, Tübingen and Marburg, he became head of the educational counseling center in Essen in January 1957. At the same time, he headed the youth psychiatric department of the Evangelical Hospital in Essen-Werden . By setting up the first day care center for psychotherapy in 1963 , he became a pioneer in social psychiatric care. He retired in 1982 in Essen as Chief Medical Director.
