Eckhard Rohkamm

Eckhard Rohkamm (born December 18, 1942 in Bad Harzburg ) is a German industrial manager. From 1988 to 1991 he was CEO of Blohm & Voss AG and from 1991 to 2004 CEO of Thyssen Industrie AG (from 1999 ThyssenKrupp Industrie AG).

Life and professional history

After graduating from high school in 1962, Rohkamm studied marine engineering at the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University in Hanover , joined Blohm & Voss as an intern in the same year and graduated in 1968 with the diploma examination. He then signed up for four years as a contract soldier in the German Navy , resigned as a lieutenant captain in 1972 , but continued to serve as a reservist and is now a reserve captain .

From 1972 Rohkamm initially worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Ship Auxiliary Machines at the Technical University of Hanover, where he became chief engineer in 1975 and, as such, was temporarily managing director of the Collaborative Research Center 98 “Ship Technology and Shipbuilding”. In 1977 he received his doctorate from this university with the thesis "Dynamic behavior of gas turbo-electric propeller drives with single-shaft gas turbine and fixed propeller" to become a Dr.-Ing.

In 1978, he came as a department manager at Blohm & Voss AG, which already at that time a subsidiary of Thyssen AG was, after Hamburg . In 1983 he was promoted to the board of directors and finally became chairman of the company's board in 1988. Since 1989 he has also been a member of the Executive Board of Thyssen AG in Duisburg (from 1997 ThyssenKrupp AG) and in 1991 finally moved to the Blohm & Voss parent company Thyssen Industrie AG in Essen (until 1976 Rheinstahl AG , from 1999 Thyssen Krupp Industrie AG, from 2001 Thyssen Krupp Technologies AG and, since 2009, Thyssen Krupp Technologies Beteiligungen GmbH) as CEO and as such continued to be a member of the Executive Board of ThyssenKrupp AG.

He retired on February 24, 2004 and moved back to Hamburg.

Honorary positions

From the summer semester of 1993, Rohkamm was a lecturer at the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg for the subject of gas turbine drives. On November 4, 1997, he was given the academic title of Professor by the university .

Rohkamm has been an honorary member of the board of the East Asian Association since 1995 . V. (German Asia-Pacific Business Association) and was chairman there from 2003 to 2008. The University of Duisburg-Essen appointed him on September 10, 2003 as a member of the Advisory Board for the Department of East Asian Studies.

Rohkamm has also been a member of the Talanx AG Supervisory Board since 2003, where he acts as Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board. From 2004 to 2006 he was also Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Jungheinrich AG . On November 8th, 2011 Rohkamm was appointed President of the Hamburger Hafen-Club e. V. elected.

Rohkamm was also a member of the committee of external armaments experts established by Federal Defense Minister Thomas de Maizière on February 9, 2012, which was supposed to evaluate the newly designed equipment and use process as part of the realignment of the Bundeswehr. At the beginning of June 2012, these experts presented their evaluation report for future procurement processes.
